You will also get an estimate of what a painting contractor might charge in labor to paint the room, based on a labor fee of between $1 – $3.50 per square foot.  The price varies by region. They will factor in how much prep time the walls require and if primer is needed.  Higher walls also be factored into the price.

How do I calculate how much paint I need?

To calculate how much paint you will need for a room, you would multiply the length, width, and height of the room to determine square footage.  Then you would subtract openings such as doors and windows.  You would divide your answer by the sq ft coverage of the paint you are using.

How many sq ft can a gallon of paint cover?

On average, a one gallon can of paint will cover between 350 to 400 square feet.   One gallon of primer will cover between 200 to 300 square feet.

How much paint do I need for a 12×12 room?

For an interior room that is 12 feet by 12 feet wide and has a wall height of 8 feet using paint that provide 375 sq. ft. of coverage, you would need 1.28 gallons of paint.

How Long Does It Take To Paint The Average Room?

According to Glidden, after you have patched small holes, cleaned and prepped the walls, and masked off trim, it will take 1 to 2 hours to paint a room that’s 11′ x 12′.
