Why 1 1/2 Cupcakes Per Person
This is the average baseline of how many cupcakes you will need for a basic gathering where cupcakes are the primary dessert along with a meal.
This number will increase if cupcakes are the only dessert but there are two or more two cupcake varieties; some of your guests will likely try at least two flavors.
This number will decrease if you will also be offering appetizers in addition to a meal and cupcakes. It will also decrease if you are offering other desserts such as a large wedding cake, or several cookie options.
How Many Cupcakes For A Wedding
For a wedding in which there will be appetizers, a meal, a wedding cake and other desserts, you should plan on just one cupcake per person. However, if you are offering more than one flavor of cupcake you should plan for 1 1/2 cupcakes as a few people will likely try other flavors.
So, for 100 guests at a wedding you should order 100 cupcakes. For 200 guests at a wedding you should order 200 cupcakes.
If you are offering more than one variety of cupcake, for 100 guests at a wedding you should plan on having 150 cupcakes.
Comparing Standard, Mini, and Micro Cupcake Weights
A standard-sized cupcake weighs about 4.4 ounces (with frosting). Mini cupcakes weight approximately half the size of a regular cupcake, and micro cupcakes weigh about 1/3 the size of a standard cupcake.
How Many Mini Cupcakes Per Person
With that in mind, you would serve twice as many mini cupcakes and three times as many micro cupcakes per person when compared to the serving for a standard-sized cupcake.
