How Many Square Feet Does A Cubic Foot Of Mulch Cover

One cubic foot of mulch covers:

  • 6 square feet at 2 inches.
  • 4 square feet at 3 inches.
  • 3 square feet at 4 inches.

How Many Square Feet Does A Yard Of Mulch Cover

A yard of mulch is equivalent to 27 cubic feet.

One yard of mulch will cover approximately:

  • 162 square feet at a depth of 2 inches
  • 100 square feet at a depth of 3 inches.
  • 81 square feet at a depth of 4 inches.

How Many Bags Of Mulch Are In A Yard Of Mulch

A cubic yard of mulch is equivalent to 27 cubic feet.  Based on 2 cu. ft. bags, one yard of mulch would be equivalent to 13.5 bags of mulch.

For reference:

  • One cubic yard equals 27 cubic feet.
  • A 2 cu. ft. bag of hardwood mulch weighs approximately 40 to 42 pounds and covers 8 square feet at a depth of 3 inches.
  • Five cubic yards of mulch will cover approximately 540 sq ft at a depth of 3 inches.
